800m 1.50 Aim

Hi guys,

New to this forum!

Ive recently moved up to the 800m from the 400m and am looking for a 1.50 or as close as possible next season.

My 400m PB is 48 seconds but ive raced one this year and ran a 49 high

Ive ran 1.57 indoors after 4 or 5 races and only raced twice outdoors both in 1.57 im looking to get at least 1.55 this year

I want to know what sort of mileage i should be hitting next winter and what other types of sessions i should be including, i believe with my speed i can hit a 1.50 and im willing to put the endurance work in, i finished this winter with a 17.50 5K time off a maxiumum of 30 miles in a week which i didnt hit until the end of the winter schedule. Im obviously lacking endurance but dont want to increase everything to quickly and get myself injured!

Any advice will be welcome

To give you advice I have to know a bit more about your current training (not just mileage).

Hi Schebo,

a typical weeks training for me would be an 800m session once a week consisting of 300 and 200s with short recovery at race pace or 400s and 500s with slightly longer recovery at 800m race pace (i try to do sessions around 1.54 1.55 pace). I would do a 400m session once a week shortish reps 300m down with longer recovery at 400m race pace and once a week two sets of 500 300 off 1 minute long recovery between or 600 200 the same. Roughly 4 mile runs on the other days fridays day off!

Need more stamina while retaining the speed you have!
Add a session of 5 x 1000 m @ 8-10 km pace with a 1 minute active recovery, followed by speed endurance or speed reps (on the flats or on the hills or a combination of the two). Note that is all in one workout!
