Re: 3-day rotation questions

Yes, do what Thomas mentions above with extra miles before and after the quality work so you get both the miles and quality in those 2 work outs per week, hence, push the pace twice........

Re: Half Marathon Tapering

Good job! I would argue you were more fit and ran a better race factoring in the conditions.

Re: Twice a week CV intervals?

I think it is wise to mix up "work outs" to enhance all parts of your fitness. One CV work out per week is sufficient. The other work out should be more in the tempo range like fast tempo Reps or moderate tempo sustained pace for longer periods or progression tempos. Keep your body off balance. With...

Sounds like overtraining to me unless you have something else medically going on?? Anemia or other issues?. I think rest will serve you well.

Re: Interval Work During Base Phase

Phil, I have never considered CV pace anaerobic and and have always improved using these paces in my 5K, 10K and half marathon times. There can be an issue if you push beyond this pace which young athletes may do if racing their teammates in their work outs. Generally, it is 10K effort on the day yo...

Re: new here, help training for the navy

More reps and more time are great ways to progress as a is less rest time between CV reps. Think of total time at CV pace when analyzing your work out and progression. Generally, when less fit, start with shorter reps and a bit more rest and progress from there. Use first rep or two to ease into the...

Re: Racing Recovery

Go for it. I see no issue. Eat and sleep well that week and minimal sustained hard efforts and you should be fine.

Re: Easy / Medium / Hard Workouts (per Tinman's Articles)

I won't speak for Tinman but he will probably tell you to take rest if you need it. If you want to nail your Friday work out, I wouldn't mess with any quality work on Wed other than some miles and striders. It appears you really broke yourself down from your weekend race. If you are sore a few days ...

Re: Tempo Runs

I think a big issue for many as mentioned previously is running them too fast. Many are focused on goal pace or goal race pace vs what your current level of fitness is. Also, many/most view harder as better. When I give advice, I tell a runner to do a progressive faster tempo run. For a traditional ...

Re: Digestive Aids to Speed Metabolism

Two things. 1. With the conservative diet Meb post on WSJ (I could lose lbs. with that running 25 miles a week) and all the miles he runs, how can he possibly be eating more than he is burning off and need to lose 7 lbs???? 2. I have never seen research on digestive aids or enzymes for weight loss a...

Re: Testosterone Therapy

My brother and wife went to one of those. Doc said free testosterone levels are more important. He put him on compounded testosterone cream which he claims is completely safe and has health benefits if levels are low. After 5 months on it, his free levels went up big time.

Re: Knee Injury (again and again), advice?

Absolutely work on strengthing glutes and hip external rotators (i.e. Hip Abduction). Walk sideways with bands.  Hamstrings are also important. "Dead Butt Syndrome" (Google it) is very common in runners and can definitely increase risk/cause of ITB syndrome, hip pain, low back pain, knee pain and ot...

Re: Winter Base Building

I don't think any specific tips are needed. Maybe your fitness level is different now than earlier or other factors are involved. If your muscles are fried, your training plan is more difficult than you have the ability to recover from. Slow down the paces and gradually work up to this training sche...
