Re: distance training "zones"

Dance with the Girl you brought AKA if your are running sub 30 10ks, don't overthink the training now, do the training that got you there. If your training to get fitter, try not to run anything blistering fast. I've seen a lot of great runners "change everything" and the results change as well, for...

Re: How quickly can one improve?

I ran a 13:30 1.5 Mile. A few months later after taking it "serious" I ran a 5k in 19:03 in May 2008, following march i ran a 1:18 Half marathon, that October I ran a 1:10 Half marathon, following year i ran a 2:31 Marathon. So I went from running a 19:03 5k in 2008 to running a full marathon at a f...

Re: Combo Workouts

What are your thoughts on "the michigan"  - 1600 Hard, 1 mile Tempo, 1200 Hard, 1 Mile Tempo, 800 Hard, 1 Mile Tempo, 400 Hard

And for that matter we could include wave workouts such as in/out 400's run a lap at 5k pace, then another 20 seconds slower for 12-16 laps?

Re: Combo Workouts

For sake of conversation lets say 3k-15k range, or roughly 10 min to 1 hour. I was thinking of some simple ones such as: 2 Miles @ LT + 3 x 800 @ 5k w/ 400 rest 2 x 1600 @ CV, 2 x 800 @ 5k, 2 x 400 @ 3k all 400 rest 3 Miles continuous of 1 Mile LT, 1 Mile 10k, 1 Mile 5k 2000@LT, 2000@10k, 1000@5k - ...

Combo Workouts

Tinman,  starting to get in shape again, wanted to do some combo workouts.  What gems do you have up your sleeves?  All others feel free to chime in as well, lets make it a good collection.

Re: Bodyweight and performance

Another trick i learned when doing high mileage is getting something in you fast after running.  Some people avoid after exercise nutrition thinking it will help them lose weight, but ultimately it slows your progress and the hunger that follows usually wins in the form of bad food.  Some protein an...

Re: Bodyweight and performance

Loosing muscle is a slow process if you choose to do it.  I'm actually pretty muscular for a distance runner and i only do pullups and push ups (military).  To loose muscle there are a few things you have to do/keep in mind. 1. Calorie deficiency needs to be evident, but very low.  Meaning a few hun...

Re: Tinman Running Calculator

Some great ideas, which after discussing with tinman I am sure we will add.  There is some limitations to the actual coding that prevents some things though, including the enter key update and inserting it into the actual webpage, but i'm still trying to find a work around. Didn't notice the trailin...

Re: Tinman Running Calculator

This is an interesting discussion, but I think we can't see the forest through the trees on this one.  Its nice to have a calculator.

With that being said, constructive criticism to overall structure, layout, and function would be greatly appreciated.  It is very much a work in progress.

Re: Extreme tiredness after really hard sessions

What stirred you to do 2k repeasts with 2 minutes rest?  Thats a very long time at CV pace.  Also 9k is a decent amount of volume, that double wammy may be the reason you are so tired.

Re: Extreme tiredness after really hard sessions

If you are hitting your times consistantly, your not in pain, and the rest of your week doesnt suffer, i wouldnt take being tired after a hard workout a sign of overtraining.  When i'm on a big workout schedule, the night after my big workouts that i do in the morning i would do a 5 miler and I swea...

Re: Last Marathon Long Run Advice

1 mile recovery makes it slightly easier i probably should try and read better, but your still doing 20 minute segments.  If you are honestly doing a 10 day taper and this run is 16 days out, then treat it like a training run and keep it in line with what you have been doing.  If thats 12 miles wort...
