Recovery Week After Race
I have my training set up in blocks of 5 weeks, with 4 weeks of training culminating in a race (anywhere from a Mile to 10k) followed by a recovery week. My question is this: when my fitness has improved to the point that I run a PR in a race, which means all of my paces get slightly faster, do I u...

MothAudio: Just an observation for you, take it or leave it. I believe your heart is in the right place, but right now your contributions to the community here at The Run Zone seem to be causing more harm than good. You spent a few days going back and forth with other posters (Tinman included) re...

XPherior: I think you're going to find that Rycase was probably not trying to be sarcastic with his response. I'm sure he can speak for himself, but you may be reading a bit too much into it. This thread seems to have bruised some egos. Perhaps everyone needs to just take a deep breath and move ...

Tinman Running Calculator
Does the Tinman Running Calculator replace the charts that are found on this website? I've noticed some differences between the paces the calculator spits out and the older charts, so I was wondering which method to use. I assume that the new Calculator more accurately reflects Tinman's current th...

Re: Looking for Advice/Feedback
KTJ: ap4305 briefly described it in a previous post on this thread. Looks like it is one minute at 5k pace then one minute jog recovery. I assume the number of "minutes" on would correspond to one's current fitness. I have a question about the half marathon pace reps. As a slower runner, it see...

Re: Looking for Advice/Feedback
My advice is be patient and slow yourself down a bit. It's great to set goals (sub 17 5K), but it will take a little bit more time to get there. Just enjoy your continual improvement and your new health and fitness. I also think that all of your runs are done too quickly, which doesn't allow your...

Re: Sub 19 minute 5 K
I do a weekly CV session on Sundays, a Tempo run on Wednesday or Thursday and easy runs the rest of the week. I do a long run every once in a while, but not every week. CV session has consisted of warm up, 5x1000 at CV pace, 10x100 striders, then cool down. Tempo run is warm up, Tinman tempo for ...

Re: Sub 19 minute 5 K
cellis242001: Sounds like you and I are right at the same fitness level. I had read a few of your other posts and our paces, mileage and race times are very similar. My advice would be to increase your mileage. It sounds like you've been in the 25-30 miles per week range. I'm planning on bumpin...

Re: Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session
I'm going to do a combo workout for the first time tomorrow, so I'll check back in with my thoughts on how it went in a few days. If all goes well, I'll probably end up using them a few times a month during the winter months.

Re: Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session
In my case, I am not racing very often. I'm very new to distance running, so I'm still learning the ropes and won't be racing much at all over the next few months. I'm only working on building my base, and will only be racing up to the 10K distance over the next year or so. I want to concentrate ...

Re: Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session
That makes a lot of sense. I'm not interested in simply maintaining fitness right now. I want to be moving forward, even during the winter months ahead. Thanks again for the advice.

Re: Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session
If you don't mind me asking, what would a specific circumstance be where you would prescribe combo work? It sounds like it is not something I should do for an extended period of time.

Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session
I've been thinking about tinkering with my workouts so I'm not doing the same thing every week. I was contemplating combining CV reps and Tinman Tempo running in the same workout. Has anyone had experience doing this? Does it make any sense? I currently do a 5 mile Tinman Tempo on Wednesday and 5x...
