She is a collegiate JR with the following PRs 400m 57 800m 2:11 1500m 4:28 6k XC 22:30 @ D1 SE regionals ~100th Her strength in my mind is her biggest weakness. she has had little stamina training and infrequently does things lik...

Vigil Training

On Facebook I saw that Fernando Cabada, a new athlete of Joe Vigil, had posted his training and I thought I would share and see what others thought of it. For reference, Cabada is a 62 minute half marathon PR and usually trains around 6000 ft. He recently won a 5k in the 13:50s indoors. What is most...

Re: Summer miles...

I think a great way to make kids more responsible for their training is to have a training log system in place. Utilizing something like running2win where they can see each others training and see their own training will help keep them accountable for themselves and each other. It will also allow yo...

Re: Summer heat/humidity - training

I think listening to your body (which you have done) is the smartest thing to do and just adapt. Tinman has created a very helpful and accurate set of Heat Index Training Charts which should help you adjust your pace. Although if you are worried about 'denaturing' the workouts by not running at a fa...

Re: Training schedule for this week. Input appreciated!

Why the day off? I think she would probably be more 'recovered' with a 3-4 mile slow run than no running at all. Also, if she ran the 800 and 4 x 4 last weekend and is racing the 1600, 3200 and 4 x 4 this weekend and then again this coming weekend I don't think you want to push it so hard on tuesday...

Re: Moving forward after 1 4:48. Any suggestions?

From my perspective, I would say you don't really need a hard mile/3200 workout at any point this season - that's what all this racing is for! As far as a "3200 specific workout", why not some reps in a combo workout at 3200 pace so she can get a feel for it? I like the look of this week although I ...

Congratulations! That is so awesome. Be sure to keep the stamina/endurance rolling - sounds like she is getting plenty of 'speed' from racing.

Re: Interpret my times vs Tinman Calculator

It's hard to say what you are 'lacking' without knowing more about you as a runner and your training. Issue could be that you are more of a mile type guy so you won't expect the same trend as a 10k-HM type runner. Additionally, its worthwhile to remember that the calculator predicts equivalent perfo...

Re: New Heat Index Chart

Why is it that as speed increases the effect increases? obviously this is pretty apparent - an easy run on a hot/cold day is largely unaffected but try doing a tinman tempo or race and the disparity between what you would be hitting under better conditions can be drastic. However I'm wondering what ...

Re: Pre's (Dellinger's) 30/40 Workout

Our coach uses this from time to time, usually as a second part to a workout. although we actually do 30/40 or 32/42 depending on the group (which turns out to be 1-2 seconds/200 faster than mile pace). My coach also coached a 3:46 miler and the world champ at 1500. I think it's probably a pretty go...

Re: Race warm-up

A shakeout is a routine standard of many distance runners on race days, even for those who do not partake in doubles. For most it varies between just 5 minutes of very slow running to 3 miles anywhere from 2-12 hours out. Obviously you should experiment and see what works best for you and dont be af...

Re: Does the length of CV intervals vary by event training for?

It might be better to keep the CV training a little dialed back as what she can run in practice versus in a race is always going to be a little different. She might only be capable of 5:10 or so on any given day so set her CV to that. Tinman has a 12 second rule (i think its 12 second?) that says th...
