Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

I had an incoming freshman boy who ran 4:54 on the track as an 8th grader. This summer he was struggling to finish workouts with the varsity boys and sure enough his parents checked his ferritin levels and it was a 6! My point is can also be a problem for boys as well as girls.

Re: New HS Cross-Country coach - Help!!

Here are some thoughts from earlier Tinman's earlier posts on the same subject that I have found borrowed and have found very beneficial. I hope he does not mind that I have copied and pasted for you. High School Mileage 1st time runners - run ~30 minutes per day, 5 days per week; build up to it ove...

Re: Congratulations Runthe8!

Phil Young - I lived in Reston and trained with Marc (on bike rides) when he was training for triathlons before his plantar fascia was so bad he had to have surgery. He actually coached a running group "The Reston Runners" in interval workouts at South Lakes.

Re: Congratulations Runthe8!

I used to travel to triathlons and do speed workouts with Drew's father, Marc back in the 80's in Reston. Like father like son! Congrats

Hey Runthe8 I am curious how you will format the training for your son with FL south just under 9 weeks away and your state meet 2 weeks before?

Re: Last Quality Workout before Boston

DK congratulations on an impressive time and race on Monday. I was there also and unfortunately ran into problems the last 3 miles. Unfortunately, I dropped from 2:50 pace to 2:54:04 at the finish. Obviously, you didn't have any problems with the eastern wind or dehyrdration and that is very impress...

Training suggestions for XC runner who won't run Track

Long story short - Sophomore boy hasn't decided he doesn't want to run track this spring. He ran 4:50 1600 as 9th grade and 5k pr is 16:59.
Welcome any training suggestions to help him stay in shape until XC conditioning starts in June.

I have used Hammer - Endurolytes with success and now use Salt Stick caps with more success during marathons.

Re: State XC progression last 6 weeks?

Well, here is my update from the Tennessee State AAA championships. We had a remarkable day. My sophomore girl, who finished 2nd last year as a 9th grader, won state championship yesterday in 80 degree heat by over 13 seconds. Had another girl and boy make all-state top 15 and girls team was totally...
