Re: Running with Gout

Hello, B I am a 42 year old runner who gets gout flare ups once in a while.  Started when I was about 36.  I am also an RN so I know a little bit about gout.  Once I had my uric acid levels checked with bloodwork I saw a physician and here is what works for me.  Watch your dehydration post run, dehy...

Re: Training in the heat/humidity

Ron, I second that about the heat and slowing down.  I live in Northern Ohio where we don't get this kind of weather and it has been 90 plus for much of June and now July.  96 tomorrow and saturday forecastes as well. I did 5 x 4:00 in a park near my house tonight and was running on a measured trail...

Re: Coming back to running-looking for advice

I ran my first 40 mile week in over 11 years. Granted I ran slower than usual and I used the treadmill 3/6 days to soften the impact on my R knee but all in all I feel pretty good about it and hope to continue the momentum.  I ran 9 today for day one of this week so far so good.

Wow, that is seriously fast for a Masters runner.  It is inspiring to see runners over 40 achieving so much and being so fast.  Amazing!

Re: Knee surgery is over

I had 2 quadricep tendon repairs in 2001, its a tough road back but the PT I worked with told me runners have a great comback rate due to being such stubborn people in the first place.  Good luck and hang in there, rehab stinks but works.

Re: Coming back to running-looking for advice

AP, Thanks for the response, I thought about a heart rate monitor when I owned one years ago I didn't use it and honestly ignored the HR when I did.  I appreciate your comments, I was actually going to run 4-5 mins at Cv pace this week with 3 min recoveries so you kind of confirmed that for me. A bi...

Coming back to running-looking for advice

Hello all, I am a little new to this forum but I have had the chance to read a bit and it seems very informative.  I am a little older (42) year old runner who  stopped racing and training in 2001 after a knee surgery and then my wife and I created 3 beautiful little girls that have taken a serious ...
