Re: Holiday Wishes

Merry Christmas everyone!  I just got back from an 11 miler, everyone east of the Rockies will hate me when I tell you that we've had record highs the past couple days and it was hot (74) and crowded down on the beach trail. :)

Re: Rotating shoes

Right now is an excellent time to go shoe shopping, as your local brick & mortar stores are probably just about to get next years models.  They should be dumping a bunch of old stock right now, so I would not be surprised if you could get some real deals. I've been rotating shoes, well, forever (as ...

Re: Trail training shoes

BF, I ended up getting a pair of MT910s after digging through the catalog at my shoe store.  The feel sort of narrow, my forefoot gets a bit sore in them.  I've only worn them 3 times (22 miles), but they do protect the feet better than my old 810s did. CB, no, I suspect the rocks probably hurt more...

Trail training shoes

In the same vein as Tinman's marathon racing shoes thread, does anyone have experience with running rough trails?  I run probably 6-10 miles per week on rail ballast, which beats the daylights out of my feet.  My most recent shoes are a pair of NB 810 (crappy phone picture below) with some stiff Spe...

Re: Tinman Runners Update

Being a Michigan native, I gotta chime in here.  Woo hoo, good job Tom, Jason and Go Jenison!  Looking at the rankings, I see "my" kids at Benzie Central are doing pretty well this year (again).  I race against them every 4th of July (my race report from back in olden times: http://www.therunzone.co...

Re: Marathon Racing Shoes?

I talked to the winner of M50 just before the start of the race (he did a super fast 55), he was wearing NB 1400s.  I wasn't thinking, so neglected to ask him if he'd ever run a full marathon in them.  Duh, I'll try to keep my mind on important stuff next time.  :)

Re: Marathon Racing Shoes?

I did the Long Beach Half in NB 1400s about a week ago (1/320 in AG, 1:26:36) and thought they were a lot more shoe than I needed for the half distance, so I went and got a pair of NB 1600s the day after the race.  I weighed 146.2 the morning of the race, so pretty close to Andrew's weight.  I've do...

Re: Tinman Runners Update
8th overall: Kevin Miller: 33:21.3 (age 51 - almost age 52)

The winner was a Kenyan who ran 30:55.
So, let's age grade that result:

M51 at 33:21 = 92.8%WR = 28:55 open equivalent...

So, in my mind, Kevin actually won the race by two minutes.

Re: Coming off Injury

I've found that various pains are speed correlated.  The faster I go, the worse my achilles pain is the next day, but the slower I go, the more my knee pain presents.  I've found that when I go faster than about 7:50 my problematic right patella is just fine, so my suspicion is that my mechanics or ...

Re: Race warm-up

Thanks, Tinman, that confirms my what I thought you were saying.  I did my first half this morning (1:33, better than goal 1:35, so ok), but did not get up at 0400 to run an early warmup. :)  I'll start doing this for my later-in-the-day races, though and see how it feels.
