Re: methodology for early morning workouts

I'm usually out the door by 4am or just a few minutes later. I start very slow and my warmup is typically 3-4 miles. I'll also do a few pickups before starting the workout to get the legs moving and the heart rate up. The first rep of a workout (CV) is usually the most uncomfortable and is typically...

Re: Durability of Skechers shoes

Captainblood, I've run in the GoRun2, Gorun3, and most recently, the Sonic. I'll get 3-400 miles out of them. I weigh about 180 right now. I ran my November marathon in the Sonics. I don't buy them because of the price but it sure is nice. My second pair of Sonics was $38 (holiday sale) and if they ...

Re: "fast" running on hills vs flats

Dilluh: Nice 5k! I'm curious as to the reason for the longer rests during the CV workout. Also, it is very cool to see good results with workouts that others might think were not enough. Support for Tinman's philosophy .

Combo workouts for marathon training?

Last week, I did a 6x1 mile at HM pace workout.  Halfway through, I really felt like it was easy.  It got me thinking that I've seen examples of combo workouts for H.S. runners posted here like 3x1k at CV followed by 3x1k faster.  I don't recall reading anything like this related to marathon trainin...

Re: Easy/moderate long runs vs. big workout

Thank you for your reply, Tinman.  I actually am feeling very good.  It is just getting it out of my head that "long runs should be run slowly," which seems to dominate the thinking these days.

Easy/moderate long runs vs. big workout

Hello. My question is basically, is there ever a time when you would just do a regular easy/moderately paced long run while following Tinman's training methods?  As I've gotten closer to my marathon and the weather has cooled, I've put in TT into every one of the last 4.  My race isn't until Novembe...

Re: Why am I such a poor hot weather runner?

3 weeks ago in the brutal humidity, I ran a 5 mile tempo segment and struggled mightily to keep it under 7:00.  Last week, in upper 50's, I ran low 6:40's and high 6:30's.  I had to hold myself back because it felt so easy.

Re: Shoe question

A few weeks ago, I picked up a pair of the Gorun 2 & 3 and am alternating them now.  At this point, I prefer the 2.  The 3 seems a bit more narrow to me.  I do like them both and have done runs of 14 in each of them.  Also have done CV in both and they seem to be very versatile shoes.

Re: Hoka Shoes

I haven't put any on, but there are a number of local runners where I live that swear by them, especially for recovery.

Re: 10k training before marathon training

Thank you, dkgg.  I had seen the Eugene report from AP a while back but couldn't find it this time.  Some really good stuff in those links.

10k training before marathon training

When Tinman speaks of training for a 10k for a few months before diving into marathon training, what kinds of specific workouts are recommended for 10k training?  Are CV for one workout and a mixture of TT, threshold, HMP workouts for the second workout of the week sufficient?  Should there be some ...

Easing back into big workouts after injury

Short Version: *  44 y/o male *  Hamstring ligament injury in October during a 10k tune up race *  Off 9 weeks *  Feel fully recovered *  Nothing but easy mileage since the beginning of the year *  Will hit 50 miles this week for the first time since the injury *  Admittedly "gun shy" about doing an...

Re: Stamina vs. Endurance

Thank you Tinman, TexNav, and dkgg for your responses. The links were very informative. I started with CV and tt last fall but got hurt during a 10k race and had to take 9 weeks off.  I'm back to running now, but won't incorporate any of these workouts until February.  And yes, dkgg, I will keep the...
