Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

Have you tried strengthening exercises for the lower leg and feet/ ankle? I can't say I've experienced burning sensations, but have had tib/ fib issues in the past. You also might want to look into flexibility of feet and ankles as lack of flexibility can cause issues with Lower leg. Tinman's book ...

that one mile, does it matter which mile during the run?

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

PT said after testing me that it's a specific part of the calf muscle that got seriously shortened and it needs specially targeted stretching. She showed me the exercises & I'm going to try out that.

Re: Ratio of easy vs not easy miles in Base build vs Race se

The muscles that got overloaded are muscles that work harder when one goes slower, I think (more heel striking and also more time spent between landing and taking off, right?). Huh? Your muscles should not be overloaded on easy/very easy runs. If your form is breaking down work on keeping cadence h...

If you don't have enough variety, specific muscles can get overworked.
Well it's always concrete/asphalt, usually flat terrain, sometimes a bit hilly.. what counts as enough variety?

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

Lol after yesterday's run-walk I have outright DOMS today in all of the lower leg/foot areas that has the burning pain when running easy. I find this interesting :D

Not running today anyway, want to do it every 2nd day initially

Will post as soon as I had the meeting with the PT!

Ratio of easy vs not easy miles in Base build vs Race season

I got to thinking after this last failed attempt of base building even though I was using Tinman's magical powers :P :-( (I'm joking here.) I guess the schedule I got ramped up the easy slow miles too fast for me. I mean me personally, this probably couldn't have been foreseen so not blaming anyone ...

I was thinking more like: Scleroderma Systemic lupus erythematosus Dermatomyositis Polymyositis Mixed connective tissue disorder Cold agglutinin disease Rheumatoid arthritis Cryoglobinemia Diseases you get when you google burning sensation in your lower legs. I know you don't feel it when you are n...

Re: Getting in decent shape fast.

Like I said in my post, were talking about 9 weeks. I´m not expecting miracles. The reason why I run shorter road races these days is that it´s fun. I get a chance to meet the old guys that I raced in my prime and run against them and see who has slowed down the least (and most) since last year. La...

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

Monica, Have you run this burning by a medical doctor? Sometimes you can notice symptoms of other things earlier when your body is stressed by running. I don't think this is something a doctor needs to see, not like a stress fracture I mean. Otoh I finally found a great PT, I will be meeting her to...

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

Going to guess that it's due to too much eccentric loading of the dorsiflexor muscles

These: http://walkwellstaywell.files.wordpress ... uscles.jpg

Anyone got advice on how to fix that best, I'm going to try walk-run but let me know if you got a better idea. Thanks

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

One last piece of data: I tried standing on one leg now (other leg in the air), and it stresses *exactly* the same areas that I listed above (certain lower leg/foot parts). So I'm not sure which muscles are involved in stabilizing the leg while on the ground (while the other one is in the air) but m...

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

I will add the background for the current state, it first usually just happened on the easy days. Two easy days and then a faster paced day, but on the faster days I didn't really have the issue. I first thought this was because maybe it recovered by that time but I'm not sure if it isn't also that ...
