Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

Here is an excerpt from a Nov2014 thread on the LetsRun Message Boards. http://www.letsrun.com/forum/flat_read.php?thread=6132673 Look for poster “bv” on pg. 1. For me I always used to get heavy legs and light headed to the point of collapsing and passing out in a 5k race. not even a 6k. It has happ...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

A recent article on LetsRun is titled – Does Science Explain Why So Many More Women Than Men Collapse At The End Of Races? http://www.letsrun.com/news/2017/04/science-explain-many-women-men-collapse-end-races/ The article quotes sports scientist Ross Tucker: It has been clearly documented that women...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

Received the following comments from John Davis of the Running Writings website http://www.runningwritings.com/ The situation you describe is very strange. I have seen similar phenomena before, very rarely. I know of one high school runner who was experiencing severe fatigue issues during races and ...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

FTIR, "MG seems to be on top of this..." You're giving me far too much credit. I've done a lot of searching and thinking on this, but still have no idea what is going on with this phenomenon. Here are a number of video examples of female runners experiencing fatigue problems at the end of races (var...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

Tinman, Thanks for your reply. I do not think that she is pacing the first 3 minutes too fast. In competitive races, she is not up front at the 1/2 mile mark and usually trails by 5 seconds or so. That is my impression. In non-competitive races, she will be in front at the 1/2 mark, but not a lot. H...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

Spider, Thanks for the good suggestion. Unfortunately (or should I say fortunately), my daughter is on no medication. Only nutritional supplements = multi-vitamin, Vitamin D, and iron pills (Proferrin and FeSO 4 ). jbarts, Thanks for your suggestion as well. We know of no cardiac issues with my daug...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

wuxcalum and toughnessbucket, Thanks for your messages. We have been tracking her ferritin levels for three years. The levels are good, about 60. We have made sure that the clinical lab is definitely testing for ferritin, not just for hematocrit, hemoglobin, or TIBC (total iron binding capacity). He...

Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

My daughter is a XC athlete and just finished her junior year. As a freshman, ran three races around 18:55 as bests. As a sophomore, had one race about 18:25 and two around 18:40. As a junior, one race about mid-18:40s and several around 19:05. She runs into extreme fatigue issues during 5K races. T...

Re: 5K Training: Three Stamina Runs Per Week - Too Much?

To Tinman and others, I had a couple of questions about the contents of this thread. I've got a pretty good idea what would be good Tinman Tempo and CV workouts. However, I don't know about Threshold workouts. I'd suspect, based on the pace between Tinman Tempo and CV, that a Threshold workout would...

Re: Repeated Bout Syndrome

I've got to agree with dilluh's "hit it out of the park" comment. Tinman's post of 12-31-2014 7:21 PM is likely the very best summation of stamina-endurance advocacy I've ever read. In view of what's been written here for years (and I've got a stack of RunZone print-offs about 3 inches high), that's...

Re: Similarities & Differences: CV, Tempo, Threshold Paces

Based on reading of Tinman's posts and comments over the past few years and studying the Tinman Running Calculator, this may be the description you're looking for: CV = 90% VO2 max Threshhold = 86% VO2 max Tinman Tempo = 81% VO2 max I will of course defer to Tinman about greater precision. I've also...

Sub-CV pace training ?

In a previous thread (http://www.therunzone.com/http://www.therunzone.com//viewtopic.php?t=9), here is an intriguing excerpt from jKerska: Are you following those 800s with 200s or short hill repeats, are you following the tempos with 200s or short hill repeats? I really think a good deal of the mag...

Re: HS girls XC training - scratching my head

Many thanks to all for your constructive and helpful comments. I'm going to file this under "I AM deceiving myself about the toughness of the workouts."  See post 3 of this thread. I'll back way off on the CV and Tempo paces. Several comments were insightful to me: Coach RonG - "if you want to train...

Re: HS girls XC training - scratching my head

Schebo, I can accept your comments and consider them valid.  Yet, I'd ask you to read further below. I have based the workouts less on time trials (which I've only done twice), but rather on how they are handling the workouts.  I believe that I am keeping the workouts within their capacities to abso...
