Re: Boston Marathon

I have run twice in 2012 and 2014. Both years the weather was unfavorable. 2012 was the worse, with the start at 85F. That year I did not race it, I just ran by heart rate - 5 bpm below my 'normal' Marathon pace heart rate, and I had a strong run, as opposed to many who did not want to respect the w...

Re: Sharpening for half marathon

TT (tempo) pace is typically just a touch slower than HM pace This gets me confused. When I talked to Tinman about his definition of tempo, he mentioned "2h30-3h" race pace - or 5k pace + 45-50s. This is much closer to marathon pace (at least for me) than to HM pace. It is also corroborated when I ...

Re: Peak Race Postponement

I don't have any advice to offer but sometimes it pays to beg the RD for an entry, especially if you can show her/him that you've run fast times.

Is the premium edition worth it compared to the free one? Just curious.

Re: My Boston Marathon

The last posts got me concerned; I have had coffee with breakfast while also taking hornet juice to prepare for a few of my runs. I have also taken GUs (with caffeine) during a marathon race before which I had taken HJ. I did not notice any of the problems mentioned above. Is it a real problem to ta...

Re: Shoe Question

I can't advise you on a suitable shoe choice but the folks at runningwarehouse are really good at making suggestions. When they discontinued the Mizuno Elixir I did an online chat with one of their representatives and they were able to suggest a couple of replacement models. So it might be informati...

Re: dilluh at the Twin Cities Marathon

Congrats on a well run race. I understand you might be a tad disappointed to run a minute slower than your PR, but given the fact that you seemed to be starting from scratch and no running specific fitness, that time is even more impressive. I agree with your idea of running shorter races in the nea...
I hear ya! It seems the older I get the worse my performance becomes in hot and humid weather.
Amen. We've had a warmer summer than usual here in Southern Cal and unfortunately due to family obligations I have had to shift my running to later in the morning. This make...

Re: Maffetone Training

One of my friends use a "sweat run" a week before his goal marathons. He runs slow for ~1h30 covered with more clothing than he needs and the goal is to sweat as much as possible. He swears that this single "workout" really help boost the performance in the following race. This strategy was sort of ...

Re: Race "rescheduled"...what to do?

I actually got an email from Tinman last night, which is fantastic news. He suggested doing a 15k at 95% effort instead of the race. Thanks everyone for their suggestions.
