Re: Goal Race and COLD Temperatures

I appreciate all the comments, guys. I wanted to give a status update on my race results. The race...............did not happen. I came home from work on Friday evening and started packing my stuff to get ready for the race the next morning. I ordered a pizza for our dinner and was about to go out t...

Re: Goal Race and COLD Temperatures

Thank you for the replies. It is going to be closer to 23 degrees on Saturday rather than in the teens. The single digit temperatures are coming 36 hours later! It will still be cold but nothing like I was expecting. I'm not worried at all about clothing during the race itself, only pre-race logisti...

Goal Race and COLD Temperatures

Folks, My goal was to run a sub 18 minute 5k before the birth of our son (which is expected to be 3/06). I believe I am in shape to do it based on workouts alone. I slated a fast 5k in February for this attempt, which in North Carolina can mean 45 degrees and cloudy or 10 degree and windy for an 8am...

Plantar Wart and Big Race

Folks, My big race is quickly approaching on 2/14. I have what I believe is a pretty bad plantar wart that has popped up on the inside ball of my left foot - of course at a pressure point. My gait has changed a little bit, but not too bad. I currently am trying the duct tape method starting today; h...

Re: Newborns and Running

Thanks for the explanation, Tom! I'm also considering your 3-day rotation for a while - just to see if that density could do the trick for me. The (lack of) sleep thing has me most concerned. I have no doubt that I can squeeze in a run, but feeling like running is where I'm probably going to have th...

Re: Short Speed / Strides After a Time Trial??

I ran a 2400m time trial on the track this morning by myself, in the cold and the dark :-) After the time trial, I ran 35 minutes at a progressive pace, and was probably around 75-85 seconds slower than current 5k pace by the end of that run. The start of that 35 minutes was probably 8:30 pace or ev...

Short Speed / Strides After a Time Trial??

Should a runner incorporate any short speed or strides following a 2400m time trial? I have not seen to much on this, but I would assume that, similar to a race, this might not be the right thing to do because of risk of injury.

Thoughts?

Re: Newborns and Running

I'm going to bump this thread back to the top for Tinman to answer my last question. Another thing I've considered is implementing a 3-day Tinman rotation and bringing my mileage down a little bit. I'm mostly concerned about how to fit-in running with a long commute, long work hours, and a new baby....

Re: Training versus Races

The concept of a harder run or race every two weeks intrigues me greatly. I have a short-term goal of racing a 5K on 2/14. Starting tomorrow morning, I have planned a harder workout or time trial each of the following two weeks with plenty of stamina work in between. I am; however, trying to decide ...

Re: Newborns and Running

Thanks for the replies - they really help! I'm already a subscriber to the 2-big workouts regimen and I believe it works for me. Tom - if 5-6 x 1000m CV reps and 30 minute Tinman Tempos are the norm today and I break them apart because of expected fatigue as you have suggested, will my fitness be re...

Re: Bouncing Back After a Sub-Par Race

I thought that I would update my progress again. It now appears that I'm a long ways away from that dissmal race back in late August. I entered a 5k that was very hilly (by far the most hilly race this year) and ran 18:17 a new "comeback" PR! My fastest first mile in any race this year has been no f...

Re: Newborns and Running

Thanks guys! I am already in the mindset of waking up at 5am on workout days and at 5:30am on easy run days. I have a 40 minute commute to and from work and we work at least 50 hours per week. My life is already not t hat conducive to running and I'm a bit worried about being able to fit it in. I do...

Newborns and Running

Folks, My wife and I are preparing for the birth of our first child. We are both thrilled and experiencing the normal anxiety / jitters that I would think most new parents experience. Life is getting ready to change in a profound way and I'm excited about it! First, my wife is not a runner (even tho...

Re: Training versus Races

Thanks for you input, Tom - I appreciate it! One last question - it is possible because of work that I might have to move the 6 x 1km CV reps to Friday instead of Thursday. I have thought about just switching the days but don't know how that would impact the Tinman Tempo running that was planned for...

Re: Training versus Races

Thank you Tinman. I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread but I do have a question. I am racing my final 5K of the year on 12/20 and it is very flat, so I am trying to peak for that race. I thought I would incorporate that particular workout in my schedule. I last raced a Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Da...
