Re: HELP: VO2 max speed/MAS, based on a 2,400m test

You can use this calculator: http://www.runfastcoach.com/calc2/index.php For the 2400m distance, go to "Imperial" when you scroll down. If you use 1.5 miles, that is about 2414 meters so pretty close. I put in 8 minutes for 1.5 miles and clicked on "training paces" and got 3:17-3:21 per 1000m for VO...

Questions For Tinman

Hi Tinman: I very much enjoyed the lecture videos that I heard about on LetsRun through Jay Johnson. A couple of questions: 1) You mentioned that the highest stroke volumes have been seen in cross-country skiers. Should runners cross-train with cross-country skiing or on a Nordic Track? Or do runner...

Re: How to get my kids out of comfort zone

I'm wondering if the training during cross country was different compared to the training for track season. Assuming the 1 mile cross country splits are accurate, it could be that they COULD run that fast during cross country season. Maybe the speed-oriented training isn't working for them at all an...

Re: Tinman for fast-twitchers

TInman once wrote that his guideline for CV work is 420 divided by your 5k time, so 24.7 minutes based on 17 flat. If you are doing CV 1000s in 3:30 or so, that guideline says don't do more than 7 in a workout. I guess you could do more with more rest, but that might negate the beneficial effects of...

Re: Tinman for fast-twitchers

Sorry, you answered the second question in your post!

How much CV work are you doing in a workout?

What is your 5000 time?

Re: Tinman for fast-twitchers

Just wondering:

1) How old are you?

2) Do you base your CV pace, LT pace, and tempo pace off your 5000 time or off something else?

Re: Advice for training paces

I am a masters 800m guy who will be 63 in March. I suck at the 5k relative to my 800m. I use my 5k time for calculating CV pace and tempo pace. It works fine. I'm sure a 2400m time would be acceptable as well. If I based my CV or tempo paces off of a 600m time trial, the paces would be way too fast.

Re: New Tinman Training Videos

When I try to go on that webpage with the videos, bad things happen! Either a page comes up asking me to download the latest version of Flash (but I just downloaded and installed the latest version from Adobe) or an ominous page comes up telling me (in a computer generated voice) that my computer ha...

Re: No hills

What Physeder said.

Also, I heard Coach Gagliano talk about using the ramp in a multi-story parking garage for hill work. Of course, get permission and be careful of vehicles. Gags also suggested wearing fairly sturdy shoes (not racing flats) for hill workouts.

Trying To Understand Chart and Tables Together

Hi Tinman: I came across this chart: http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0116/3769/WorkoutsTrainingChart.ByTomSchwartz.TinmanEnduranceCoachingLLC.AllRightsReserved.02.03.2017.pdf If I look at the red/orange line to the far left and the dot on that line that is lowest on the chart, that seems...

Re: Late 5K race fatigue issues - High School Girl

The Reuben Reina meltdown was just that. It was very hot during the trials, even at night. I was there as a spectator. At one point the announcer joked (I'm making up the numbers here): "Temperature in the shade, 96 degrees. Temperature in the sun, 109 degrees. Temperature ON the sun, 10 million deg...

Re: ALL COACHES: Base Training for the 800m

If you go to this page, http://www.runningprs.com/calc2/index.php and put in your 3 mile time, and click on "Training Paces", you get a chart with different paces. You want to find the Tempo and CV paces. CV pace is a little slower than 3 mile race pace. For you, it would be 1000m in about 3:40 or s...
