Re: I need help peaking for districts and state (please!)
Tinman has some old threads, and even a powerpoint, where he discusses warmup for hotter races. I don't have time to find them, but I'm sure if you search, they'll pop up. Theres a lot of great information on old posts from this site. As for my thoughts, do an abbreviated warm up(slightly less than ...

Re: fatigue, please help
Thanks again for all your help. I agree with you about the stamina running and the vo2 max and faster workouts. What are your thoughts when its extremely hot and humid, such as 95-100 degree's or 80 degrees but 95-100% humidity for months at a time. Suddenly, those threshold workouts have the heart ...

Re: fatigue, please help
I wanted to follow up, in case there in another runner dealing with similar fatigue as my daughter. Las night, she ran the 1600 and was happy with her race (1 second off PR) More importantly than the time, for the first time this season, in a race, she felt good. After her very disappointing 3200 an...

Re: fatigue, please help
Thanks for your response and help. I have had her iron checked every 6 months for the last two years. Her ferritin level is always between 40-50. The race went out extremely fast, where she hit the 800 at 2:36. She can run an 10:59 minute 3200 and 5:06 mile, so this first 800 was way too fast for th...

Re: fatigue, please help
Thanks so much for your response. I found that post very informative. I will look into finding a doctor who works with athletes, however, I'm not sure where to start. I do know her iron/ferritin is fine. If she is dealing with glycogen depletion, would it have effected her, even in a two mile race? ...

fatigue, please help
I am hoping someone on here can give me some advice on my daughter. She is a dedicated Junior, doing about 45 miles a week, with a strong base. She is near the end of her season, where she has raced weekly. She started feeling tired a week ago, had a few rough days. On Friday, she had an important i...

Re: increasing milage
Tinman, Thank you so much for your detailed reply. I know you are very busy and your advice is very much appreciated! As for my daughter, yes, she is well rested(gets 8 hours of sleep a night), eats extremely well, and seems to feel stronger the more miles she does(consistently). I will have her rea...

increasing milage
I have a question for any runner/coach who has worked with high school runners. I have a daughter who is a freshman. She is wanting to increase her mileage from 38(in cross-country) to around 50 in the next two or three years. She is not sure about the best way to do this. Should she run 7 days inst...

Re: dead legs or allergies
One other question. I know how busy you are, Tom, so this can be directed to anyone who follows your beliefs about training and is knowledgeable about racing/fatigue. Tinman recommended easy running for a week, with strides. The athlete has an important 3200 race on Thursday. This is not districts(t...

Re: dead legs or allergies
Thanks so much for your thoughts. I'll have her run easy with strides, instead of taking a couple days off.

one other thing. The athlete runs even splits, so there was not an issue of going out too fast and hitting the wall. SHe is hyper sensitive of pace for workouts and races

racing consistent times in the mile and 2 mile for girl (5:19), (11:18). Raced each three times with almost exact time. live in florida, so the season is 2/3 finished. last week, tired, then ran mile and couldn't hit pace for the first 400. ran 30 seconds slower. (mentally gave up the last lap. Any ...

Re: mileage for female
I agree that many coaches keep their milage around 30 a week. (Is this because the coach feels that the kids lack the desire to put in the time?) However, most of the consistent top programs have higher milage and carefully watch their speed. As for my daughter, she feels strongest when she is runni...

Re: mileage for female
Thank you so much for your thoughts. That makes perfect sense. I know you are extremely busy, so that means a lot that you took the time to respond. I have read and followed many training programs in the past, however, your philosophy is so enlightening. I look back at my training and racing and can...
