Re: eBook ideas

I also like optimal work outs for a specific distance ideally between 5K and marathon if you want to hit the most interest. A problem with being too specific like 23 minutes at 84% intensity or 84% of max HR, is that this may be too specific for many who read it unless you want to focus on the advan...

Re: eBook ideas

Tom, just so that we are all clear. Are you writing one eBook or multiple books small books?  If one book, I think you need to appeal to the masses. Most runners do 5K-Marathon training so a focus there will get the most readers. How to optimize performance in these distances with a topic like, "How...

Re: Marathon Taper

Early start so probably weather was not a significant factor - I think temps in low 60s at start. Maybe wind was a factor. Very windy in my race this morning in upper Midwest (Green Bay). Awesome time though - wow!!

Re: Tinman, could you give me advice? My base phase strucutre.

JB, what have you been doing for quality work since March 9? Those are excellent base work outs and you are very strong aerobically but you probably need to be doing some CV reps and race specific training each week as you approach a goal 10K race. Provide more feedback since March 9 and Tinman can ...

Re: How to adapt Tinman training for trail races?

If you have tempo miles within your weekend long run, include it as a BIG WORKOUT! This is what I do. I think this makes sense. During mid week longer run, you can include CV reps or a bit more upbeat tempo paced mile reps or your 1 hour long tempo.  This mid week work out would be your other BIG WO...

Tom, I went to the KansasCitySmoke site and listened to the recording you made on long runs. Really good stuff.

Re: help with 800/1500m training??

You need some quality work outs other than fast shorter intervals. I agree, you need a stamina work out (CV pace). I think you also need more base/miles. You should do some running on Wed and Friday primarily aerobic miles. This will build your base and stamina and help you hold your pace.

Re: increased mileage?

I think Jeff is saying above his son only does 2 hard work outs a week - race and an interval work out.

Re: Masters Marathon Plan
Thanks Chuck.  I will look into it.  I've tried dry needling and it seemed to help a bit.
I tried that about 4 weeks ago on the right side and then took off running for a week. He used a 25 guage needle but studies used a 22 guage needle.  I did not notice any benefit as of...

Re: Masters Marathon Plan

Barney, I have high hamstring tendonapathy and can't shake it - 5 years now. I may try PRP injections in late Fall or a new procedure called the FAST PROCEDURE www.fastprocedure.com to get rid of the scar tissue. The scar tissue is what causes the pain. What works for me is a long run with a fast fi...

Re: Mile Repeats + 200's?

Tinman is not saying to blast through work outs at near maximum pace in the heat. Where does he say that!  If anything, he says to slow down (focus on effort) while taking into account the heat. Work outs in the heat make you stronger in Fall when temps stabilize.

Re: Dry heaving at the end of races

This can be a common feeling especially for those less conditioned.  I am not saying this is you.  When I was less fit and racing, I would feel this way. As I raced more and ran more miles in general, this feeling subsided at end of races.  Try blowing into your fist or a hole in your fist at end of...

Re: Running pace question

Please also take into account heat, humidity, temperatue, how you feel etc when determining on you run that day?  Try to find what CV effort feels like. This is most important than hitting an exact number. If you are off a bit, who cares, it is still a productive work out.  I would caution you thoug...
