Re: TRAINING PLAN??

Cellis,
Do some hill surges after the tempo or CV reps. You don't need to separate them hills and tempo/intervals. Even a handful of 30 sec surges up a hill at a solid effort is good. Do these in place of striders or quick/shorter reps. Also, nice to do your long runs through rolling hills.

Re: TRAINING PLAN??

As far as pacing, CV pace is near 10K pace but depends a bit on your current fitness level. Do you know what you 5K race pace is? If not it might be good to get a race in soon or simply do a 2 mile time trial to help determine your estimated training paces.

Re: TRAINING PLAN??

[quote="cellis242001"] Hi Tchuck. Sorry it took so long to reply. You are correct. I usually put in workouts four days a week. I am only averaging about 20-24 miles. All depends on what I can work in during my lunch breaks. My week usually goes as follows: Sunday: Long run 11-12 usually, I usually c...

Re: TRAINING PLAN??

Chris, It appears your schedule is fine regarding long run and work outs. It appears you are running 4 times per week correct? How many miles? Are you able to add some miles to your mid week runs - more easy miles before and after your work out days? Perhaps 1-2 more runs per week to get more miles?...

Re: To race or not?

Is it your intent to build up your miles? We probably need a bit more info. Have you run prior marathons? Times? Times for halfs?  If not, your goal is aggressive for a first marathon. What is your history of running over the past 2 years? In my opinion, based on your 10K time, you will be hard pres...

Re: Tinman Tempo Pace

Also, a general guideline is about 50-60 sec slower than your current 5K race pace or what you feel you could run on that day.

Re: HELP...Chicago Marathon estimated time????

What was your temp./weather during the Mexico City half? I have to believe the weather may be more ideal in Chicago. This factors in to the equation.

Re: Peaking for half marathon

If doing a long run 7 days before the race, I do like the marathon pace reps. I generally do my last long run with quality about 10-12 days before the half (Tinman taught me this) because this long run stimulus takes about that long to have the carry over effect and then last solid work out 7 days b...

Re: Peaking for half marathon

It probably would not hurt you but if doing a 10K in a few days, I think 2 10K races is aggressive in the last month leading up to a half if the half is a goal race. Stick with the CV work outs. Overall, I like your schedule A LOT!!! The only thing I might tweak is to just do 30 min straight at half...

Re: long runs - how long?

Great topic! This was addressed in this months issue of RUNNING TIMES. I believe Lorraine Moeller wrote the article. Nobby from the Lydiard Foundation is quoted a lot as basically says many/most people do marathon runs in training to train for marathon. People are fixated on doing 20 milers and doin...

Re: Fracture of 5th metatarsal

Hi John I deal with fractures every day with a device I sell for bone healing and use it on 5th met. fracture a lot. Where on the 5th metatarsal is your fracture? I am assuming it is not a "Jone's" fracture as you are allowed to be weight bearing. Is it on the base or mid shaft? Any displacement/gap...

Re: Can anyone provide info about Tinman's Coaching???

I have a degree in Exercise Physiology and worked as a trainer for 13 years including coaching runners. It wasn't until I hired Tinman about 5 years back did I break my cycle of ok performances on low miles. I knew my stuff but needed a boost and some new ideas. At age 40 after less than a year work...

Re: I Seem To Get Injured A Lot : No More Sprinting?

I think you answered your question with your last sentence. What is more important, a fast 400m time or regular competition in 5K/10s in summer/fall? These faster sprints probably won't add much to your 5k/10k times depending on your muscle make up.  As far as your pain, it doesn't sound like an inj...
