Re: Using Tinman training for 15-year-old female XCC runner

Has your daughter done a recent 5K, 2 mile race or time trial? Tinman will need to know her current level of fitness to determine proper pacing. Also, what is she currently doing as far as paces and types of runs per week/distances etc.

Re: Been Gone A While, So An Update

I love that story and the success of your cross country team. Giving them a system, reigning them in and not beating them into the ground not only yields immediate results but keeps them improving year to year. How many cross country teams are out there pounding 400s like crazy. You are having succe...

Great, thanks very much for the insight. Would Brooks T6 or T7 be about right for a flat?

Brooks T6 and T7 are excellent flats at around 6 oz. I have owned the 4, 5 and 6. Love them!

Re: sudden drop off in performance

[quote="wvrunner"] Hello All, I have always respected the opinions of those who post on this board. I am 45 year old male runner who trains 30-40 miles per week with some additional cross training (cycling) another 2 days per week. Using much of the training recommendations from this board I have ha...

Re: sudden drop off in performance

Give us your typical running week and paces. Are you doing a lot of speed work or racing in work outs? I am curious if you are doing races this time of year???? I am thinking you are racing your work outs as you said your typical 5 mile course you are slower in??? You should not be racing your regul...

Re: Year-round training schedule

RXB nailed it. The only thing I would add would be on that Tuesday vary paces a bit. Do CV work every other wk. The opposite wk do either mile reps at half marathon pace, 800M reps at 5K pace to add a bit more variety. Also, if feelin good, a fast finish long run.

If willing to do the cortisone, you need to give it a chance to heal. What is more important - next year or next race!!!

Re: 2 tempo runs+ 1 CV workout a week

Boiler, That is kind of where I was coming from with two quality days and a long run.  I personally feel 3 quality days and a long run is too much. One could throw in a long run every other week in place of one of the quality days.  A controlled pace 2 hr long run has physiological benefits that can...

Re: 2 tempo runs+ 1 CV workout a week

What is your running background and how many miles per week are you traing and for how long? It would seem a bit aggressive to me especially if you are getting another 90 minute run in there also. I would think a tempo, CV work out and long run would be the best formula but tell us more about you.

Re: Weight-training: Benefits, What types, Routines etc.

If this routine works for you, stick with it. Personally, I would not do real heavy weights and low reps which is a power routine. It makes me too sore to have productive running. I generally recommend and personally do sets of 12-25 reps with those same great exercises with great form. I am agreeme...

Re: Bad 5K race today -- what training element should I work on?

No amount of training can correct a poor racing strategy. This was your problem in this race and is what I see all the time. I ran a 5K race yesterday with 15 people ahead of me at 800M. I finished 3rd.
