Re: Critical Velocity?

If I understand correctly, one can do CV/tempo/T (threshold) pace running pretty much every other day, all year.  As your goal race(s) approach, start adding more race-specific workouts and V02 stuff, if you want.  For example: M- 5X1M CV T- EZ W- Tempo T- EZ F- Progression S- EZ S- Long (with 2X15 ...

Re: Critical Velocity?

Another running board (which I shall leave nameless) has a posting that pops up every few months in response to "how should I train" questions.  Tinman even got a nice mention!  Looks really simple, but effective.  I guess the 12K reps are CV pace, with another run around TT pace, and finally a long...

Re: Weekly Training Schedule - 5k/10k (Key Workouts, etc)

I was able to look at "Running with the Legends" via Google Books this morning.  Arturo Barrios said his training for many years was 10X1000 at 2:45-2:50.  That was roughly 15K pace for him.  He did this with 1 min recoveries.  Sound familiar?  Pretty much a spot-on CV workout!  Interestingly, he sa...

Re: Weekly Training Schedule - 5k/10k (Key Workouts, etc)

Arturo Barrios set world records off of this training: Two workouts weekly (10X1000 and 15X400), with a long run on the weekends and easy mileage the other days, usually in doubles.  No mention of any threshold/tempo type of work.  Maybe the 1Ks were the threshold stuff?  I recall that he ran them a...

Re: Weekly Training Schedule - 5k/10k (Key Workouts, etc)

Timmins --

1.  What do you do for your 5K pace sessions?

2.  Why do your strides on the days prior to your workouts, and not on the actual workout days?  Probably doesn't make a huge difference, but I'm just curious.  I never know when to do those things...

Re: Critique my 5k/10K training program

Thanks for the input.  I'll add a second day of strides.

Tinman -- I live in a moderately hilly area on the east coast, so I'll get some hill work in.

So it appears I have my bases covered--specific endurance, threshold work, speed work, and long run, right?

Critique my 5k/10K training program

I'm racing again after a long (15 year) vacation from running.  Recently ran a 5K in 18:12.  Hoping to get down to the 16's later this year/next year, as well as a sub 35:00 10K.  That's the goal, anyway. My training is evolving into this: Monday:        Easy 9 miles Tuesday:      8X1K or 4X2K CV pa...
