Is that type of workout appropriate for any time during the marathon training phase?  Also, would that be considered a 'big' workout?
What would be the ideal previous two/three days?

A 1,000 foot drop is tremendous for a recovery run.  Drive down. IMHO.

Back to Carbohydrates!  What are the best types for runners?  I personally like to eat some fruit after a run of more than 5-6 miles. Or a medium to hard workout.  Watermelon, Cantaloupe, Apple, Pear, Banana, etc. Also in the summer I try to keep Coconut Water handy. 11 oz  size is perfect. I also e...

I'm assuming the 5% to add to the 2400M time is to the pace per mile?

Little by Little, Line upon Line.  Tinman's wisdom here is what most people reject in place of the BIG workout. I'm not professional, not very fast, but just like to learn more about the sport.  By so doing, if I can help a few friends and acquaintances miss out on some injuries, it's worth it.

I have never used a heart rate monitor, but my Daughter now has a Polar. I plan to use it for this HR test real soon.
