Re: Training suggestions for XC runner who won't run Track

Buy him a tank of gas for his car for each 5k he runs between 17:30 and 18:15. :)    Seriously, the long range goal of improving upon his already good times should be motivation enough. If you can build a bridge mentally and emotionally that staying in shape will keep the ball rolling - as Tinman te...

Re: Master Runner seeks Sub-20 5k

Interesting thread as I too plan to break under 20:00 this spring in the 5k.  I am 49 years young! I started running at age 44.  I look forward to the constructive comments from the knowledgeable readers on this site. And of course the comments from Tinman.

Re: Taking Electrolytes During a Marathon

I liked your comment about "can one drink too much coffee?" Here is my race report. Weather was  a little warm, 63 degrees, 95% cloud cover, 8-10 mph wind for the first 14 miles out, wind at back towards finish. I took a Gu with electrolytes before the race at mile 4, and at mile 22. I also drank so...

I would start by reading all the Tinman Articles on this site to begin with.  There is much beneficial information to digest and assimilate.

Re: Taking Electrolytes During a Marathon

I will do that this weekend during my long run, and my next quality workout. I'll let you know how it works out.

Also, I may have drank too much coffee prior to the race. I will cut back to just a single cup about 1 hour before running.

Thanks!

Taking Electrolytes During a Marathon

I experienced some slight cramping in my Half Marathon this past weekend.  I took in either water or gatorade at each station and had one Gu at mile 4.5. I didn't push the last mile or so since I have a Marathon December 8th.  The weather started off at around 48 degrees and I finished when it was a...

Re: Marathon morning meal

I found this older post that addresses some of my concerns. I raced a Half Marathon Saturday.  I have a Marathon in 4 weeks.  Based on advice from Coach last year in another thread (I'm repeating the same cycle this year as last) I ran at about 96-97% effort.  Set a new PR for the Half by 1:24 with ...

Run a search here for "high school" and you will probably find a few threads with general principles that will work for you.

Re: Plantar Fascitis Developing

I'm glad you posted. It helps with insight for sure.  The questions may seem a little critical, but Tom's explanations and yours have helped me (a novice) to understand how to train better.
