Re: Recovery Week Sanity

I tell my high school runners to focus their energies on something else. Right now, most athletes are done with their seasons, and final exams start next week. What a great time for a break from running! They'll hopefully focus their energy on studying. Your last sentence says it best: every workout...

Re: Extensor Tendonitis Recovery

I briefly dealt with this after wearing some new spikes for the first time in a 3k race. I could feel the "creaking" in the tendons when I flexed my toes and wasn't worried about a stress fracture. I made sure to loosen all my shoes for a few days (even my work shoes) and I also slept with cotton ba...

Re: First post-need some training advice

I think one thing people get too caught up in with training are the numbers in their training log. They will look at a chart, and think, "Oh, I have to hit this pace for my interval workout today." Or, they follow a plan blindly without listening to their body. As Tinman has said many times (and it'...

Re: Combining CV and Tinman Tempo in One Session

Going off of what ap4305 said, I've found combo work to be most beneficial when the high school racing season prevents my kids from getting in two quality days of work (especially at this point in the season, with championships/invites coming up). When we do that, we don't cram two workouts into one...

Re: Interval runs on hilly course?

I know you're not in high school, but here's my experience with high school kids (and then I'll tie that into you!) :) With my high school kids, at the start of the season we start our workouts on flat surfaces, mainly the track, so they can learn to feel out their pace and match that with the effor...

Re: High School CC

I'm not Tinman, but I'll add my two cents. I'm going to be head coaching XC for the first time this fall. During this past outdoor (where I was a head coach, but mainly focused on the distance kids...we were lucky to have a coaching staff to divide and conquer and with varying event strengths) I use...

Tinman's Approach & My High School Athletes

I've never posted here before, and I wanted to share a story about my high school student-athletes and their improvements. First, some background. I remember reading Tinman's posts on Run-Insight.com during my first year in college, back in the fall of 2004. I enjoyed Run-Insight due to the mature d...
