Wasting my time?

After a dismal 2012, trying to get rid of my upper hamstring tendinopathy, I'm at a point where I want to train for another marathon.  I'm up to 40mpw and usually only hit 55mpw during a marathon cycle.  I have a PR of 3:03 (~45mpw) and would like to lower that in Feb. 2014.  My question is if I con...

Re: How to get in shape after injury?

Curious Tinman, how many 1k or 2k repeats, same as CV workout volume wise (~5k to 7k)?  These are done at TT pace though, not CV pace.

I was "banged up" for much of 2012 with minor ailments that prevented me from doing anything fast or long.

Thanks!

Re: Masters Marathon Plan

Yes, I'm currently doing some lifting.  I did have some muscle imbalances, according to my PT (very weak hips).  I've been doing my entire body, but focusing also on my core and legs.  I'm actually much improved from last November, but it's been a slow process.  As I always tell my running friends, ...

Re: Masters Marathon Plan

Thanks Chuck.  I will look into it.  I've tried dry needling and it seemed to help a bit.

Masters Marathon Plan

All, I battled some hip/hamstring tendinopathy throughout last Fall and early Spring.  I've set out to run a marathon in December.  I've built my base up, but anytime I add some quality, the recovery time is much longer for me and I find myself struggling/sore from the previous workout.  I don't kno...

Any Hanson Followers

All, I used a strict Hanson Bros. plan in 2006.  I surprised myself with a 15 min. PR and the most even splits that I've run (:13 sec.).  I've since strayed from this plan in previous years and improved my PR another 12 min. (3:03). I plan to use it again this Fall; however, I have a question.  In w...

Re: Training in the heat/humidity

I second what has already been said.  In my early days, I would fret about not being able to hit paces, etc.  Now, I refer to this time of year as, "Summer Survival."  If I can get through the next few months with decent mileage and a work-out from time-to-time, I will be ready in the Fall. If I get...

Re: What to do?

Thanks again.  I do accept that I am an aging masters runner; however, I'm very competitive.  After nine years of running, I continue to PR and I know that I will plateau at some point and I will no longer PR.  My current situation isn't helping me push that plateau further away! :'(

Re: What to do?

I greatly appreciate the responses.  Tchuck, no, I don't want this to be a chronic thing, so I want to catch and treat early.  I, too, had a cortisone shot, which helped for about 2 month or so.  I do think the core work and overall conditioning is helping.  Again, my veteran runner friends say that...

Re: What to do?

Thanks for the detailed response.  Since 2009, when I started getting serious, I have been trying to run 40-50 mpw.  2010 to 2011, I spent slowly building my mileage up.  From August to December, 2011, I began my specific marathon training, which began in the 55 mpw range and ended in the 70 mpw ran...

What to do?

I was reluctant to pose this question; however, I really do want honest opinions regarding my situation.  I went into a Dec. marathon with some mild upper hamstring tightness (possible tendinopathy).  Prior to the marathon, I saw a sports medicine doctor and immediately began a strengthening/stretch...

Any Last Minute Advice?

I will be running the St. Jude marathon tomorrow with a goal of breaking sub 3:00.  I've run 3:03 on this course in years past; however, this year, I've followed a general plan provided by our very own Tinman and found myself running more than I ever have.  Only ~1 month ago, I had some piriformis/u...

Question about workout

As of yesterday, Saturday 11/10/11, I was 3 weeks out from my marathon.  I was scheduled to run 3x5miles with 2 min. recovery yesterday, which I did.  This workout was done without a taper and in the middle of a 70mpw.  As this is the first time, I've really pushed myself during marathon training, I...

Re: Cold Weather Running Gear Survey

Man, I really dislike the hot humid summers here in Tennessee, but this thread makes me kind of appreciate the mild winters!  Carry on and stay warm! :P

Re: Book Update

Actually, in 2008 or so, Tom did coach me for a short time.  Right now, with a wife in Commercial Real Estate sales, money is tight.  I can't justify the expense of a coach.  Well, I can justify it, but the wife doesn't agree! >:( In the past, Tom and many others have offered information, which I ha...
