Re: Ratio of easy vs not easy miles in Base build vs Race se

Try to run a mile or so on grass every day.
Not quite knowing when you are going to
hit the ground and having to push off a
little more keeps every little muscle from
doing exactly the same thing on every stride.

What surfaces to you run on?

If you don't have enough variety, specific muscles can get overworked.

Re: Burning pain in feet & lower leg

Monica,
Have you run this burning by a medical doctor?
Sometimes you can notice symptoms of other things earlier when your body is stressed by running.

Re: Maffetone Training

Gabe, I would really like to see a good study that would put this question to rest. I followed your link but I didn't find an article even though you link to a story that is 18 months old.  I found a magazine article that described some work presented at a conference.  That is far from a peer review...

Re: dilluh at the Twin Cities Marathon

Since you have sworn off summer marathon training and are expecting, (Congratulations) I'm not sure it matters, but why did you do a two big workout schedule? It seems to me that since you are not good at running in the heat and weren't going to race in it, you would benefit from spreading your pace...

Re: New World Marathon Best time!

From Renato Canova: Joking apart, you need to understand one think : when we speak about years of training, we don't look at the "official" training only (under some coach, or in an organized camp). Training is evey activity that can change your physiology and your specific ability, and everybody ha...

Re: New World Marathon Best time!

Does anyone know more about the story of how Kimetto was "found"?

How fast would he have had to be in 2010 to get noticed?

Josh1,
Is the idea of a time trial yours or have you seen Tinman's posts on time trials on here?

Re: Bouncing Back After a Sub-Par Race

The race was a rust buster.  You haven't raced in a while and you have kind of forgotten how.  The next couple will each get better.

Re: High School Boys & Girls: Training Differences

Yes.  Race miles count more against the allowed total than I pace in training but race miles also seem to help me prepare for faster races better than I pace in training.
