Re: Long term vs. short term improvement
My question is, I don't have 2 years with these guys.  How do I help them run their best during spring track?  .... Do I differentiate their training from Tinman style "push the pace only twice a week" for better short term improvement, meaning, PR's  in their events, in May?  [/qu...

Re: renato canova training philosphy

Thanks Tinman! ... much appreciated. One further question ... The best young athlete in my training group runs sub 17 for 5K @ age 14. I currently prescribe 4 x 1200m @ CV pace for this athlete on a (more or less) fortnightly basis. Would you advise an appropriate volume of CV work for this session ...

Re: renato canova training philosphy
I think my methods work better for non-world class runners.  I also think my methods will work very well for world class runners too.  I'd love the challenge! I just would up the ante of my methods for world class runners, making their workouts more extensive , though the principles...

Re: renato canova training philosphy

For a better understanding of Canova .... An useful place to start would be this blog post by John Davis on his "Running Writings" website .... http://runningwritings.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/peaking-with-renato-canova_28.html#more Another good source would be Steve Magness' "The Science of Running" w...

Re: renato canova training philosphy

Run4ms, My initial question would be ... why do you want to use a Canova approach "for a little while"? The Canova method is based on having a clear Target Race at the end of the process. Unless you have something specific in mind, it will just be an aimless exercise. Moreover, Canova himself has sa...
Hi all. How can I successfully include XC skiing in a marathon specific training period? Any thoughts? Best regards from Oslo, Øystein. Re: Any advice to help my sick son who has districts tomorrow in cross country?
I think the first day off is 1-3% loss of plasma volume.  That loss directly affects V.O2 max. Red Blood Cell loss occurs after about 5 days of no running, I speculate. Re: 2 questions

Coach Don .... please do tell us how your guys get on this weekend.

Remeber that the benefits of this more moderate/sensible training intensity will be better seen in the long term rather than the short term.

Re: Running pace question

Gull,

When it comes to training it's what pace you SHOULD run at, not what pace you COULD run at.
Train, don't strain!!

Believe in (& follow) the Tinman method, & you WILL improve.

Cheers,
Spider Man.

Re: Running pace question
The ultimate goal of a training system, I think, is to have a true benchmark - a true measure of your fitness  - in order to set appropriate training paces.
