Re: 800m 1.50 Aim

To give you advice I have to know a bit more about your current training (not just mileage).

Re: First 5k in a Long Time - Need Goal Advice
I'm going to take the time to keep anyone updated who is interested.  Today I had the day off of work, so I logged a big, faster workout this morning on the track before the kids arrived at school.  I actually tried to use some ideas of Tinman's thoughts from other posts. After a 2 m...

Re: First 5k in a Long Time - Need Goal Advice
Thanks for the replies, guys and gal. A few answers / comments: 1)  I only wear a watch for races, the tempo, and the CV workout.  I do not know my easy paces.  I do know that even when I was at my best several years ago, I always ran slower on easy / recovery days than almost anyone...

Re: First 5k in a Long Time - Need Goal Advice

I´ll have to repeat myself here. Doing just mileage, high-end aerobic intervals and quick repeats is not enough for most people if they want to run their best 5k. You need to do race-specific training. Try doing 400s at 3k pace or 6-800s at 5k pace once per week on non-racing weeks. Your 200s are to...

You need to do a 3-5k pace workout on non racing weeks.

Re: Meb's Marathon Training
I guess it needs to be two easy days when the key runs are run pretty hard?
Meb is not exactly young, so his rate of recovery is  a lot slower now than it was when he was 25. When I was a 20 year old 1500m runner I did 4 hard sessions each week. Now when I´m 46 I do one har...

As long as you take it easy with the quality training next week, I see absolutely no reason not to race.

Re: Ideas on my training
Based on my 18:13 5k I ran my time adjusted CV workout today (adjusted for 0 degree treadmill):  5 x 1000 @ 3:36 with 200 jog (1:00).  Definitely more challenging than the 3:43, but a good challenge. So would the suggestion be I stick with this workout once a week until it bec...

Re: Be careful what you read on training - This makes me laugh.
I just received the current issue of Running Times and they had an article why marathoners should do speedwork with the following recommendations: 1.)  200m to 400m repeats at 3K to V02 Max speed (they even defined V0@ max speed as all out at 6 to 10 minutes so this is faster th...

Re: Long Runs

When I was a 29,10 10k runner 20 years ago my long run were generally around 90 minutes. I always thought that steady paced mileage, tempo runs and long reps were more important for my aerobic development, and I didn´t want my long run to make me feel tired in the following days.

Well, it was when Mo Farah speeded up his easy days from 7 min/mile to 5,30/mile he got his big breakthrough.

Re: Ideas on my training

You´re running 5k in 18,40 and 3 mile tempos in 18 minutes? That´s not a tempo, it´s a race effort.

Re: The Disadvantages of Perfect Pacing

He is wrong about one thing: that you have to decide your final finishing time before the race in order to run at an even pace. An experienced runner knows exactly how you should feel during different stages of a race over a certain distance.
