Re: Longer easy runs at “very” easy pace...

In 2014 we only had 1 Swedish guy under 2:20 in the marathon, the somali-born Mustafa Muhammed who ran 2:19:29. And we only had a tiny handful of guys that broke 30 min 10k. Swedish distance running is just in an awful state at the moment. If I were prime minister here, I would hire Tom to coach eve...

Re: Longer easy runs at “very” easy pace...

Alan, This is the ever ongoing topic in the Scandinavian running community. Of course there is never just one explanation, but a myriad of different reasons to why we don't produce good runners anymore. If you take a look at Lidingöloppet 30k, the worlds largest cross country race here in Sweden, yo...

Re: Longer easy runs at “very” easy pace...

I agree that this is a very fascinating topic! In Scandinavia, the "Lydiardism" was the rule in the 60-70-80´s and we produced a lot of world class runners, like for example Lasse Virén and Anders Gärderud - both olympic gold medalists in distance running. I know the training of Gärderud very well, ...

Re: Edigburgh XC race

It was fun to see Ritzenhein beat Kiprop! If you had asked me before if Ritz would beat Aspel Kiprop in a 4 km XC race in 2015, I would not have thought so. Especially after all the problems Ritz has had. It's clear Ritz is coming back in shape. But I think Kiprop paced himself quite bad, and seem t...

Re: Ratio of easy vs not easy miles in Base build vs Race se

Tom, ok I see. I was asking because I did not understand if she was using a program that you have written, or if she was just using your ideas (which is practically impossible, because you use so many different kinds of training for different persons). I agree, sleep is nr 1! Its impossible to handl...

Re: Newborns and Running

The most important thing is for you to get a HIGH QUALITY running baby stroller! Don't buy a cheap one. Buy a stroller that is smooth and fast. To run distance with your child in a stroller is so good in so many ways: Your wife gets some time for herself, your child gets fresh air and you will get y...

Re: "fast" running on hills vs flats

Why does running hill sprints/repeats feel better/more controlled than strides on the flats? It must be because the pace is lower and therefore more controlled when you run uphill. And it is also much easier to land your foot in the right way on the ground when there is an incline. I think it's a m...

Re: My Boston Marathon

Sounds pretty great. I ordered it quite a long time ago, but it just made it over here last Friday and so I tried it for the first time on Saturday on my last, short long run (20k, 1,5 hours) before the marathon. It is probably a bit to short to note the true benefits of it (if there are some), but ...

Dkggpeters,

Have you used the Hornet's Juice during your long runs lately? If you have, what are your thoughts?
