Re: How long should your longest long run before a marathon be?

Thanks guys, good stuff! My problem has always been that I am a bit unsure of myself and look at what others do a lot. And therefore it is such a great thing to have a good coach that tells me what to do, because then I am sure that I'm not overdoing stuff. As you say, Captainblood, there are so man...

How long should your longest long run before a marathon be?

While I completely trust Tinman's program and judgement, I still cannot help feeling a bit scared that my longest long run (big workout) before my marathon will be only 2 hours and 30 minutes. For me, a rather slow runner, I can only manage 32 kilometers in 2,5 hours, without straining too much. I w...

Re: Eat More Carbohydrates !!!

For me the tricky thing when I started with Tinman was that he almost cut my mileage in half. So from running 100-120 km per week (overtraining), I started out at 5 hours in end of May/beginning of June, and have worked my way up to 7 hours during the summer. Thi...

Re: Eat More Carbohydrates !!!
I guess I was one of the culprits that triggered Tinman's OP...I have had days in the last few weeks where I had "dead legs" and I couldn't run at my normal easy pace, correlated with a very low HR. Tinman correctly diagnosed this as glycogen depletion and it went away after j...

Re: Maffetone Training
Be sure to have your blood volume high!  One way to do that is Heat-train before your marathon. It only takes 2 weeks to make your body store more water (increase blood volume, too). Higher blood volume equals better cardio-vascular efficiency, and hence better chance for running fa...

Re: Maffetone Training
Based on my formulas, the world marathon best time (2:03:23) is equal to a 26:52 for 10,000m. Given that I think about 26:30 is the fastest any many can run legally at present, I think the marathon best time could legally reach 2:01:42.  Yeah, I think the record will approach 2 hour...

Re: Maffetone Training

And I think that the reason that the marathon times have developed so much in recent years is because they were TOO SLOW before, compared to equivalent performances on shorter distances. For example: When Haile ran 26:22 in 1998, the marathon record was 2:07:12. Which is way too slow in comparison t...

As for 1:59 lol I would ask Radcliffe how she trained for her marathon WRs :)
To play devils advocate, take a look at how Geoffrey Mutai trained. Re: Maffetone Training

Dkggpeters, yes isn't that typical of our "internet-age"? Information and trends travels so fast. Somebody has success with something and suddenly everybody is doing the same thing, and next month there's somebody doing exactly the opposite with great results and now everybody wants to try that. I, ...

Re: Maffetone Training

For the guy who improved so much on the Maffetone method, I think he had a great running talent and he could have become really good. But he never manage to run a good marathon, he tried several times but he always ran out of energy after 30 k. I don't know if that had to do with the training, or j...

Re: Maffetone Training

Maffetone really believes that someone will run 1:59 in a marathon very soon. I think that says pretty much about him. That's equal to around 25:20 10k. And today there isn't anyone who run under 26:30. Also, as Monica points out, the 180-rule is completely bogus. I have very high heart rate. It's t...

No need to apologize coach, I just wanted to provide you with some info about Henrik. We don't produce that many good runners up here in the north these days, so Henrik is really somebody that excites. A great talent!
