5,000 meters

Absolutely phenomenal to have seen this happen, and within a week no less. The thought, belief, that mental aspect that non-Africans can be competitive threats at sub-13 appears to be more of a real object. I am not saying suddenly taking down guys like Bekele, but to be in the fight when the times ...

Prediction: Wariner vs Merritt

I just have this bad feeling that even with Hart in his corner, that Merritt is in Wariner's head now. It might take some work to get over it too.

Wariner is still my guy, but I think last season still has him set back as well. I do hope I am wrong though.

Alan Webb changing coaches

What do you know about his weight training ? To me it always appeared obvious that he spent some time hitting the weights but I never really knew to what extent.

Alan Webb changing coaches

Wow, I'd be interested to hear people's opinions on the change. If Alan has the desire to run and race, I wish him the best. I can't think of any other athlete at least in running, that is scrutinized and dogged so much. If he ever had wanted to quit running, that is his choice, ala Herb Elliot. Som...

Training Log Thread

I'll update this when I can as well: Well, after about 4 weeks of no running, last week (July 12-19)I put in 4 x 20 min runs on Tue, Wed, Fri, Sat... with upperbody weight training on Mon, Thur, Sat. This week (July 20-26) is much the same 20 min runs each day. Tue and Fri I picked up the pace a lit...

Nice race... especially given no warmup and the dreaded humidity... to me that is what makes a huuuge difference. Where I was at the last 2 weeks, the temps ranged from 108-110 daily. But I could get in an hour run in the middle of the afternoon b/c it was not humid at all. In TX, with the high humi...

Progression Runs

Tom, Thank you, great stuff as always. Your knowledge and experiences laid out is always immensely appreciated. Tonight, an officer that I work with, and who became a mentor to me throughout my deployment is leaving theatre and heading back to the U.S. He really helped the speed of my development in...

Progression Runs

Though I can't add in anything as far as where I place them into a training/racing cycle. My absolute best progression runs have all come on my "long run" days. Much like Math posted about his long runs in the "current fitness" thread. But they also come more on a whim with me, and normally on the "...

Math, You were racing pretty well over a year or so ago weren't you when doing 800s at CV pace with about a 2:1 work:recovery ration on the reps, correct? I also like the shorter distances and as was mentioned above about 1200s, that is about the longest I like to push it. But I also typically stick...

What about your pace on the "filler runs" or the 50 minute runs ? Funny thing that I am even asking this as the past 2 weeks I actually was travelling and had to jump into some treadmill running. I dont know how but I apparently injured my foot. It was only a little stiff after a Tempo run last Frid...

Math, At what pace are you doing your easy runs at ? I seem to remember a long time ago you mentioning 10 milers around 8:30 pace??? Is that correct and is that still the case as far as pace goes? I am having to do all of my running on hard surfaces and am having to slow the paces slower than 8min/m...
