Tinman's Gradual Comeback Training

Tom, Just thought I'd throw this your way. I know of a guy who instinctively follows some things that you have suggested, 2 Big Workouts and easy filler runs of 20-30 min easy runs. He still maintains his 5K in the high 17 range, which isn't ridiculously fast, but b/c of his busy schedule and as he ...

What kind of shoes everyone trains in?

Thanks for the feedback. I am curious, how much do you weigh ? I'm just trying to get a relative comparison for cushioning/weight. I had tried the 2140s and they just did not work for me. Right now, and the rest of the year, unfortunately, I am having to do all of my running including CV, tempo, str...

Drew,

Curious, have you run in any of the Asics DS Trainers? If so, I was wondering how they compared to the 1100 models. I believe Mathwiz likes them too.

The new DS's lack just a tad on the cushioning side for me.

Ways to manage "summer heat"

Drew, You're points about the humidity are spot on. I live in the DFW area and it is pretty dang humid there as well and I dont think most people realize how much so. In fact, the first person I had coaching me was based in SoCal. He wanted me doing all of my runs in the morning as his argument was ...

Race Recovery

I'll follow up on what Tinman posted, basically a testimonial. That extra quality stuff year round, not just the Tempo and CV (which I love as it keeps me closer to good 5K shape, but not so intense that it nukes your nervous system), but the strides added in on some easy runs really help with avoid...

What to do when there are no hills

Ah, I think perhaps the dedicated treadmill hill workout is what I should try. You've had me tack on the hill reps before at the end of my Tempo runs. But since I have a choice in running outside vs in, I choose outside. It is just so dusty and dirty where I am at, they wont let you in the gym witho...

What to do when there are no hills

Tom, I realize I should post more questions here, especially given how much I have benefitted from others questions. You basically know where I am currently located. I can't really add hill work on a treadmill at the end of my runs as where I am at my shoes collect a lot of sand, dust, and dirt. So ...

A training log

Donm, the forum on getfitnow.com was actually taken down quite a while back. There was a guy that posted there under 'donmo' and was a triathlete/runner. Just curious. I wanted to chime in also, being made aware of and the use of CV pace has been awesome for me and if not just consistent progress, t...

Hey Mathwiz, I had forgotten until yesterday, I think I had sent you a message a while back via the Private Message on here. You might want to check and make sure.

Mathwiz, just thought I'd drop a line on here from afar, and mention that I really have gotten a lot out of the questions that you pose to Tom. Good work with you training.

Shoe question

The store I went to has both a treadmill and a small indoor track actually. So, I got a good feel for them. I know one of the employees there, and the owner is really cool too. As well, there is not a pushy sales environment either. But I did give them a little jog. Actually I tried on quite a few, ...

Shoe question

I made it to the shoe store today. The Mizuno Elixer recommendation was spot on (for me at least). Outside of my Free 5.0s, these are the most comfortable out of the box shoes I have ever purchased. i was also extremely impressed with the Brooks Ghost, and will be going back tomorrow to purchase tho...
