Re: Athlete facing leg strength issues

Great stuff, thanks for sharing. I am very familiar with Starting Strength and have skimmed through the Schuler/Cosgrove book as well. I never felt the need to buy either though as by the time I really came across it, I had already put in a good amount of time technique-wise (primarily influenced by...

Re: Athlete facing leg strength issues

dkg, If you catch this, I'm curious as to what your athletic background is. Your program is well thought out, and if not for having to train for other specific athletic events, if I were just lifting for overall strength and general health too as running as my main sport, your split is basically exa...

Thanks Tom, great find!
I've always liked the stories A Cabral has posted regarding Lopes's threshold and strong distance runs, (Possibly as these continuous Tempos or LT runs are where I typically struggle), and how no one liked running these runs with him.

Amazing to be that strong at 38!

Re: Quality the day before a workout

Thanks for the article. Right now, the days before my workouts are an easy 3-4 miles. Wondering if I should be aiming for at least 2-3 minutes up-tempo at the end of the run, in addition to short hill sprints or strides. This could also just be a bit of a phase as my non-training schedule could be t...

Quality the day before a workout

What is the minimum and maximum amount of "quality" that folks have found to be beneficial the day before a workout? I'm finding even more lately that I'm needing some more up-tempo type of work the day before a workout. Except for a recent stretch the past 2 weeks my Saturday workouts have been a s...

Re: Lactate Tolerance Workouts

Kind of reminds me of an article I was recently reading when Tom mentioned lactate use.  http://triathlon.competitor.com/2013/07/training/checking-your-intensity_59521/2 I think the link above should take you to page 2 where the author states "When we train at an intensity just below our threshold, ...

Re: Intervals

Of course Tom! At least, I do. Though it was not for a marathon buildup, the first time I'd been recommended (by you) interval workouts before incorporating Tempo runs was after my injury when deployed! It was my first substantial layoff since beginning running and I just didn't have the strength fo...

Re: Intervals

http://www.therunzone.com/http://www.therunzone.com//viewtopic.php?t=7 Reminds me of this thread that I like and bookmarked a long time back. I just remember how I liked seeing the transition from 5K and CV paced work early in the training cycle, to half and marathon specific phases later. (Somewhat...

Re: A good article reinforcing making easy days...easy

Great points above, and I certainly wouldn't begin to try the 180 steps per minute cadence at slow speeds either, I'd probably end up with shin splints for sure. I actually forgot that portion of the article when I posted it, lol! The easy pace portion was definitely what caught my eye. Plus as I've...

A good article reinforcing making easy days...easy

I was searching for something somewhat related, but came across this article and am glad I took the time to read it. http://camilleherron.com/2012/09/10/slowing-down-the-easy-days-to-train-and-race-faster/ If 9:00 min/mi pace for easy days is good enough for these 2:37 and faster females, I think it...
