Easy Runs and Hills

Tom and others, got a question, wanted to see how others have dealt with this I've been hit with a little twist to my running. I have only been running seriously for the past 2.5 years. I had been at the same job the past 8 years until this past April, and as my job entailed me to work a lot of even...

Tinman's Handy Distance Training Chart

If it works for you that is all that is important. It could be that it doesn't work for me because I have only really been training about 2 years, or perhaps don't run as much total volume. You might just be able to tolerate it better. I was just speaking from my standpoint also. I would never argue...

Tinman's Handy Distance Training Chart

Really good stuff as usual. Very interesting. For whatever reason I find that 3 mins is about the max that I can get out of a VO2 paced interval. As well, I find it very interesting that Tom you stated you prescribe about 12 minutes total at the VO2 Max pace in training. Consequently earlier this pa...

Biomechanics issue

Tom, At least conciously I am not aware of any strength deficienies or leaning or favoring of one side. Barney, you mentioned something I have noticed, it has happened in the past on easy days when tired, especially as those runs are ususally on a light crushed limestone gravel and provides just a l...

Biomechanics issue

I have a question and want to see if anyone here has experienced the same, heard, seen, read about, etc. I have a tendency for some reason for my right foot, just on the inside portion of the foot, the side of the ball of my right foot, tends to catch/brush up across the ankle bone on the left ankle...

Training Paces

As a public sidenote, Tom, thank you for all of the help, answers, etc. both here and off-line with my coaching. It has been an immense help, and is making me a better and smarter runner every time I log, read, and/or ask questions.

Jeremy Warner - Was his coach disrespected?

Would you ever forsee Wariner trying to change back to Hart? And would you ever forsee Hart taking on Wariner again? I would find it interesting to see if any changes might come about as my understanding is that typically Wariner's contracts with Hart have been 1 year in duration and is probably the...

Wieght Training Question

I would second what Tinman recommends. To maximize strength, while keeping bodyweight low... heavy weight, low reps, for fewer sets, and longer rest is probably your best bet.

Question about "Big Workouts" and building to them

I went back and reread the generic training recommendation and see that it is recommended 20 mins total. For some reason I was thinking it was a 20 intervals at CV pace.... a little off huh !? haha So that would make it around 59-60 or so minutes total... not the 90 I originally was thinking if the ...

Question about "Big Workouts" and building to them

Ok, thank you both. I might have been off on the amount of CV work recommended, I'll go back and check the previous posts. It was kind of late last night when I posted and thought about it so yes, perhaps I overstated the amount of CV work recommended. I will work on that then, stretching out the wo...

Question about "Big Workouts" and building to them

To all, I thought I would see what recommendations might be out there. Say for example I am working up to a CV workout of 15min w/u, 20x2min CV/1min jog rec,15 min c/d- this is a total running time of approx 89 mins total (and not counting perhaps any strides added in for warmup, or some short speed...

Training progression

As opposed to just racing, etc as an indicator of fitness and increasing aggressiveness in training, would it be adviseable to perhaps also say gradually bring up the pace in easy runs in ones training to also help adaptation and performance. For example, aside from workouts, on easy days (presuming ...

Replacing running workouts

Any suggestions as to replacing my run today? This does not happen often for me but with very limited sleep the past 2 nights, and a high of 106, and the need to get my training in earlier in the late afternoon, running outside will probably not happen for me. I will say first that I abhor treadmill...
