question for AP405

Hi Ap405, You mention on another thread with regard to Timmins ( by the way timmins your doing great, and im sure your form will come around) about the real pay off in terms of heavy mileage will come when he can do 100mile per week plus very easily 3-7 years down the line, barring injuries of course,...

Re: Critique my 5k/10K training program

I think Tinman would a)make those reps 1k at CV or 2k at half marathon pace, same benefit but less stress (6-7 of those) b)make the mile pace reps 4-5*200m rather than 300m and have you do another set in the week. c)perhaps keep the long run on the longer side eg 14/15miles and progress to moderate ...

Re: Race

i was amazed at how restrained he was in the first 2 miles!!!its so difficult to do especially if you want to be part of a group with similar target time, also did he get shot in the backside around mile 22!! he lost 8 minutes in the last 4 miles, i was gutted for him just reading those splits.

Re: Race

just goes to show how difficult the marathon is. sounds like drew paced it perfectly and it still wasnt his day. you can prepare as well as you like in the months preceding the race but sometimes it just aint your day. and looks like it was a gutsy run from alex, im sure they will both have better d...

training modulation

yeah that definately sounds a more plausible rotation.anyway in a new found motivation to vary my steady running i just decided to go for a "moderate run" that turned out stupid, ended up doing 18 miles at tinmans everyday tempo pace(5k+60 sec=5.47/mile).what was that about holding back over enthusi...

training modulation

renato canova is posting on a thread on letsrun at the moment about easy medium and fast distance runs. interesting to note the similarities between his suggestions and tinman. for instance he recommends long runs at 6.20 pace for a runner with a threshold of 5.20, this is pretty much tinmans "moder...

ritz 10 mile session

Hi all, we all know ritz is in great shape but surely going that that fast in a workout has got to be more of a race type effort!!!!that is 58.55 pace for a half in a workout of 10 miles continuous.does anybody think that was smart?but then again these elites are a different breed to us mere mortals...

quick question?

thankyou very much for the reply. in terms of breaking points, for me it seems to be 80 miles a week before i need to do my easier runs slower than the v.easy guide pace, rather than injuries or inconsistent quality days been the problem.but definately something to think about. thanks again. You see...

quick question?

Hi tinman and runners, quick question if i may, as soon as my miles go above 80 ish per week i struggle to keep within the ez-v.ez pace guideline you have in your charts and hit my 2 workouts per week. should i stay below 80 and keep the runs honest or occasionally slow down 15-20 s per mile and go ...

Ritz 5k

yeah i suppose all that talent means little if you cant put one foot in front of the other.either way great for distance running to have 2 chaps outside of kenya/ethiopia/eritrea/uganda knocking on the door.

Ritz 5k

Hi everyone, heres a question to you all, do you think dathan ritzeheims 5k AR is more attributable to the work he did under brad hudson training for the marathon and therefore deserves more credit or to the work hes done with alberto salazar recently?al sal was full of praise for what brad did, sta...

Threshold and Marius Bakken

matt K, that sounds like a very intense 9 hours!i wish i could train that intensively, id eat like a horse if i did!!! ap4305, i know tinman has described a runner he knew called mike who used to train moderately every day, but i think that was circa 75% vo2 max, not 88% vo2 max as marius followed. ...

Tinman's Gradual Comeback Training

Good to see youre making progress, and putting some time aside to do a bit of your passion yourself.Do you find it difficult to follow your own training advice for yourself, its a bit like providing dietary advice, i know what i should do and what i tell people, but much harder to apply it to yourse...

Threshold and Marius Bakken

he used to do 5-6 of those sessions a week. of 12-15km each, as in 40-50 miles a week at just below LT. how is that physically possible?!!!!is there anyone else in the world who would do that?what are youre thoughts tinman, not quite pushing the pace just twice, could this have anything to do with h...
