Drew Hunter - 2 mile result

Post by Tinman » Sun Mar 15, 2015 2:01 pm

Joan Hunter just sent me an email and stated that Drew, her son, ran 8:48 for 2 miles indoors today. That's the 5th fastest U.S. 2-mile indoor time, ever.

Once posted I urge you to all watch. This race was EPIC. I mean 3 tremendous talents battling throughout. The finish as I told Joan was not simply a kick. This was just raw competing at it's finest!

Congrats to Drew and his coach (mom)! :) It was clear from watching the race that Drew's Stamina and speed were phenomenal. 8:48 indoors is unbelievable for anyone let alone a junior. Are we thinking 8:40 outdoors?!?!

Thanks, everyone. It was so exciting but boy, was I STRESSED during the last 2 laps! I think Drew would like to shoot for sub 8:40 this year but we are not sure when/where that might happen. The race opportunities are limited. We can't afford to take him to Arcadia this spring where he might have a chance of running against some good guys, and on the east coast, the best bet would be the Penn Relays 3000, but he would really like to run the mile there this year. Maybe NB outdoors, but some of those guys will opt for the 5000 instead, and in the case of Grant Fisher, the mile, and most probably won't double. We also want to spend a little time running the 1600/mile this year and try to improve in that event. And of course, we don't want to overrace him. Lots of things to think about.

I saw the video link on letsrun before logging in here. Really cool to see that race. Drew was awesome. Besides the finish battle, Drew led that thing from the start and was pretty much the single reason that it was that quick and he was still able to finish.
Great job to both Drew and runthe8
