Hello The Run Zone community,
Tinman and others have defined the lactate threshold as the pace that can be sustained in a 1-hour race. My understanding is that at paces faster than lactate threshold, acidosis is the limiting source of fatigue but that running at exactly the lactate threshold causes no more than 4 mmol/L of lactate accumulation, so severe acidosis does not occur.
If no more than 4 mmol/L of lactate accumulate in the blood during a 1-hour race pace, why can't we keep sustaining the pace?
