USA Track & Field Indoor Masters Championships

Post by Tinman » Sun Mar 28, 2010 12:11 am

Congratulations to Andrew Duncan for wining te 3,000m last night in a personal best time of 8:49.71. He ran the mile today, too, and placed third: timing 4:26 and change, which I think is a lifetime best too. Way to go Andrew!!!

Congratulations to Joan Hunter, too. She placed second in the 800m race (2:23.23) at age 46. The only one that beat her was the world age-group record holder, formerly of Poland. Way to go Joan!

Tinman,

Did you coach any of these runners?

Thanks,

Tom

Since this hadnt been answered yet... Andrew is coached by Tinman, and he speaks highly of him in some previous posts.

Yes, Tinman has been coaching me for several months, though I had been following his training principles as best I could for about 6 months before he started coaching me.  My 2:23.23 is a masters personal best indoors (I ran 2:21 outdoors a couple of years ago).  I had a really hard time with the winter weather on the east coast and Tinman got me through it somehow with good results, despite my not having a treadmill or track to run on for about a month!

Boilertom:

Yes, I coach both of the athletes mentioned, who won medals at the USA F&F Masters Indoor Championships this past weekend. I've coached Andrew Duncan for about five years. I started coaching Joan last fall; about 6 months ago.

Note: Andrew won the 3,000m last year at Nationals too.

Thanks! It's not surprising they are doing so well! It helps keep my sub 3 hour marathon goal alive!
