Andrew ran great! It was a personal best time at Carlsbad for him. He's raced there several years in a row now. In fact, I coached him in the lead-up to Carlsbad 7 years ago and ever since then. Back then he wanted to improve on his best time of 16:37 there. He ran just over 16 flat, and he and I became runner-coach due to the success of that day, I think.

Andrew said he ran with the leaders through 2 miles and then  4 of them got the best of him in the last mile. But, each of those guys were superstar runners in the 20's as collegiate runner (close to 28 minutes in the 10km for a couple of them). I think Andrew is doing well for a guy who was never a star runner like those guys.

Cushing-Murray (the race winner) was also a former sub-4 miler.
