Tore Axelson

Post by Tinman » Sun Jul 29, 2012 3:38 pm

Just a kudos to Tore Axellson for running his 4th Swedish national record this year. He's age 55. So far this year he won the national cross-country championships (8.5km), and he set the records for the road 10k, track 10,000m, track 5000m, and just yesterday that track 3000 (9:35.70). He'll run in the Swedish national championships (on the track) this week. Then, he will prep for a couple of road races before targeting his national 10k road record on September 22nd.

Way to go, Tore!

Nice job Tore! You should give us the links to your races. I'd love to follow your progress. Keep it up. That 3k time is a world level performance also.

:)Congratulations to all Americans, because of the 10 000 m in the Olympics!

This Swede started to train for four years ago. The main reason was to get rid of some fat (9 kg since then). But it became more serious after a wile. Injuries : surgery in both achilles tendons in jan. 2009. Serious groin - hipproblems and surgery in the left hip dec. 2011. Cam -Impingement, chroutches in six weeks and rehabtraining for months. But now i am on the track again, and with Tinmans help it is a pleasure to train, and I enjoy it. The younger years will not come back, and certenly not the power. The focus must be to run as fast I can in my age (55).
To run at my maximum I must compete with younger runners at "lower level". There is sometimes problems to have track races on the rightly level. In Sweden I am a little  too good at my age. But in the longterm I will train serious under Tinman, and do my very best in Brasil (World Master) in the fall 2013.

Congratulations to Tore for winning the age 55+ 10,000m national title in Sweden (by 2 minutes)! Sub-35 at his age is just super!

American friends!
It is never too late to start with running. I ran 10 000 m this saturday at the time: 33.53.68. 55 years old and I am sure that I will run faster next year, when I have got more and smart training from Tinman!

Great Job our Swedish brother.  You're helping rewrite the book on what's possible.

Tore ran in ran 33:53 for 10,000m in cold rain and moderate wind, too, in Oslo. His arms were stiff and unable to function well the last 2.5km of the race due to the weather.

None of you mention that Tore was a sub-30 10k runner in the 1980s.

He stopped running for 15 years, so his comeback is inspirational. Last autumn he had major surgery on a defect in his hip. He spent a couple months recovering. He worked patiently and persistently on rehab. Returning to running was not easy for Tore. I ramped his training through distance work and he was careful to continue therapy exercises even when his  weekly volume and key workouts showed progress.
