Tore Axelsson

Post by Tinman » Wed Mar 20, 2013 3:04 pm

Good and bad news for Tore Axelsson, who ran in the 3000m event at the European Veterans Athletics Championships in San Sebastian, Spain. He started he kick too late, he said, so he missed a medal by .79 of a second. However, the good news is that he set an age 55 Swedish national record with is 9:30.99 result. Tore injured his hamstring in the autumn, so the whole winter was a challenge to improve his fitness while dealing with the recovery process. He never lost faith in himselfor me, as he worked through the problem. I had to give him a lot of easy distance work, for a few weeks, and strengthening exercises were necessary to overcome the injury issue. It wasn't until 4 weeks ago that he started interval training. Rather than running normal intervals, I had him run them in snow, at a much slower pace. It kept his heart rate up, but the pace was slow enough to not strain his sore hamstring. It wasn't ideal, but it worked well.

A National record! Superb.

Well done Tore - I would imagine that you are confident that you could bring that time down further still.....

Great job Tore!! Way to hang in there through the injury and give it your best shot knowing your not in 100% shape. Keep after it, and good luck in the xc race.
