9:11.22 3200 meters indoors!

Post by runthe8 » Sat Mar 08, 2014 4:35 pm

I am so excited!  My son, Drew just ran 9:11 at the Virginia Meet of Champions.  It was a 14 second PR!  He is a sophomore.  Despite the horrible weather this winter, lack of meets for him to run in (no indoor track season in our county), no one to train with, he persevered.  I could not be more proud of him!  :)

That is awesome and a legit time!  Here in NJ we have some talented 3,200 meter runners and he would have won the state title.  CBA and a kid who ran 8:55 last spring are 2 examples.

Congratulations, and of course if it's the Tinman way you know the times will continue to drop with smart and long-term focused training.  I can;t wait to see how he does this spring.

Wow, that is so cool! Many seniors would love to run at that level.

I predict 8:50s for next year.

Thanks, guys.  Drew has trained with "the Tinman approach" his entire 1.75 year career  :D.  Consistent weeks of mileage in the 50's (this school year), CV, tempo, combo workouts etc.  I did add some short speed/technique work in the form of Ron Grigg's wicket drills which seems to have really helped his finishing speed and overall fluidiity  when he runs.  He likes to "keep the ball rolling" and not take days off or reduce his mileage much before big meets. He said to me today, "So, what's my new CV pace now?"

Burn7, he is not going to run New Balance indoors.  He wanted to, but only if he made the championship standard, not emerging elite, and until yesterday, he had not hit the standard.  He just wants to roll into outdoors right now and hopefully will run NB outdoors.  He'd also like to run at Penn Relays so we hope he gets invited.  I've got to figure out how that works.  How is Josette doing? Has she recovered from her injury?

Tinman, I hope you are right about the 8:50's next year.  That would be pretty good for a junior.  He hopes he can break 9 outdoors this year...I hope so too but I keep thinking at some point he's going to plateau.  I did not expect him to run 9:11 indoors.

She is doing great!  We decided to not compete much during indoors and train for the outdoor season.  She is fitter than ever and is following the Tinman plan and enjoying it which is of course very important.

Congrats as 9:11 is a really fast time for a Sophmore.
